Frequently Asked Questions
Does Seraphin Medical take insurance?
No. When clinics bill insurance companies as an in-network provider, the providers are required to become participating providers. The providers must sign a contract that allows the insurance company to determine which services they will and will not provide, and how much they can charge for those services. In general, insurance companies are not focused on any preventative or wellness services. We are committed to the functional medicine model that addresses the underlying causes of your symptoms with specific nutritional and lifestyle recommendations. For patients with Medicare, we require your completion and signature of the Opt Out private contract form which states that we do not and you must not bill Medicare for services provided by the staff at Seraphin.
Will bloodwork be covered by my insurance?
Yes, however you are still responsible for deductible. A copy of your insurance information will be sent along with your lab work. Insurance will typically not cover all the testing, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t benefit you in some capacity. Your insurance carrier should send you an EOB that explains, in detail, the services that were either paid or denied. You may also find this information on the invoice.
Please do not panic if you receive a large bill from the lab company! First, please make sure it is an actual bill not an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). If your bill is due to improper coding from our office, we will recode your tests in order for your insurance company to cover more of the test(s) cost. If you have any questions about the cost of your lab bill, please contact our office at 629-240-7619 or by email at wellness@seraphinmed.com
Do you use other test methods besides serum (blood)?
We employ a variety of tests to determine the root cause of a person’s health issues. The number of tests recommended will depend on your individual situation, including the number of issues you struggle with and the length of time you have been experiencing them. Some labs that involve stool, urine or saliva samples are done by you in your home. You will be given all lab kits and step-by-step instructions for at home test at the time of your consult. Examples of other testing methods we use beside blood work:
- GI-MAP
- DUTCH Testing
- H. Pylori and SIBO Breath Tests
- IgG Food Sensitivity Panel
Where will my labs be collected and do I need to be fasting?
If you are using insurance, we will utilize Labcorp or Quest for labwork. If you are self pay, we can utilize Any Lab Test Now or we can use Labcorp, which offers us a discounted rate.
Initial blood work is performed “fasting”, which means nothing except water or black coffee 8 hours before your visit. Please remember no supplements, vitamins, hormones or medications (except heart and blood pressure medications) the morning of your labs. We will time your blood work based on your cycle if you are having hormonones checked.
Do you offer telehealth consultations?
Our providers are available for consultations through phone or email. They prefer your first appointment take place in person; however, this may not be possible depending on where you live. If you fall within that category, please call our office to set up an initial phone consultation appointment to discuss your concerns and to let you know which lab work to have drawn (and where this needs to be done). We can only accept patients via telehealth if the appointment will be done in the state of Tennessee.
